Capital Of Texas Triathlon

This was the second time I raced this event. I was really looking forward to it. I had a pretty solid build and I felt fitter then ever before, thanks to coach Cotter and Team Hard Yards.

The swim went well. I had a hard time staying with the group because i was in the third wave and we had to swim around tons of people. I really dont like that but what are you going to do.
For some reason i always feel like I have a hard time during this swim. I am not sure why but I just do. I came out of the water in low 23 min which is a PR for me and I was right with the first group.

I could tell it was going to be a good race as soon as I was running into t1. I felt strong my legs felt ready. I have never felt that good before during any race.

As i was running to my bike some dude tapped me on the shoulder and said "thanks for the pull". I looked back and I had led about 10 people out of the water. "Whatever"

The bike is my favorite part of this race. 4 laps, fast course, tight turns, good stuff. I felt good right away and was able to move. I was 6 min faster then last year so I am pretty stocked about that. During the last few miles of the bike ride I could tell it was getting hot. Didnt matter, not this year, I was ready.

Rolling towards the dismount line I am always a little nervous about how are my legs going to feel during the first few steps. Well, the felt GOOD. I was in and out of t2 in no time.

I had a pretty good plan for the run. Good pace for the first lap all out for the second lap. Well that didnt work.

I ran the first 5k in 18 and some change. i was still feeling great. But with about 2 miles left I started to feel the heat. It got hot really really quick. I started to slow down A LOT. But thats ok because I still ran 8 min faster then last year.

Overall I was 14th in AG and 68 OA. Missing top 10 by 50 seconds and 13 min faster then last year.

Thank you Team Krauss for coming out and cheering and thank you for coach Cotter for pushing me to new limits.

Rookie Race Report (RRR)

Last sunday (mothers day) was the rookie triathlon in New Braunfels. This was the second time for me to race at this event. Last year I finished 3rd in my AG and I was hoping for another top 3 finish this year.

The swim went well. I was in the first group which consisted of 5 people. No one was willing to do any work so we kind of just swam along with out anyone pushing the pace. I had told myself not to be the one that does all the work during the swim. As soon as I hit land I bolted out of the water and into transition. I grabbed my bike and of I was. As i crossed the mount line I jumped onto my bike and my left shoe popped off and hit the ground as I rolled away with only one show. I had to stop go back grab it and put it on before I could ride of (super annoying). By this time I had lost about 25 seconds to the other dudes. I dug deep and cought back up after about 5 miles into the ride. I think we were a group of 6. We dropped 2 and when we hit transition again I was in third ready to put down the hammer on the run.

I put on my left shoe, no problem, i put on my right shoe and my sole had moved so I couldnt put it on. I had to sit down and work on it and lost another 20 seconds. As I watched everybody run out I was still sitting on the ground dealing with this shoe. Finally I got it on and it was fire in the hole.

I was not able to catch back up to the group but I did pass one guy. I came in 4th with only seconds behind 3rd.

Overall I am super happy with the result. Coach Cotter has really put together a great program for me and it seems to be working. Thanks HARD YARDS.

And thank you SUE for all the support and for hanging out at the race on mothers day., your hot.

Next up Cap tex

Quick update

Its been a while since the last update and i promise i will try to get back into it. A lot has changed training and racing wise since the last time.

In a nut shell:

Went out to New orleans and raced the 70.3 event out there. I had pretty high hopes which came falling down pretty hard and quick. i guess I just was not as fit as i thought I was.

Swim
I had swam a shit load two months before the race about 5000 yards a day 6 days a week so i was fit as a fish :) but come race day my confidence was in the shitter. So long story short I was cought in the slow pack and it took me forever to get out of it and I lost about 4 to 5 min.

Bike
Had a really solid bike ride 2:30:00 which was 15 min faster then the last time, YAY
Once mile 50 hit so did the cramps right then I knew the run was going to sucks asssssss.

Run
i run the first mile in 7:30 and then had to walk the other 12. I am not even going to post my finish time because it SUCKS.
I really wanted to break 5 hours and I thought I had it after my good bike but NOPE. Got to be good at all three.

Finally found a coach. James Cotter. This guy is the SHIT.

Going to race "the rookie" this weekend and I cant wait. This will be the second time that I am racing this event and last year it was a lot of fun.
